Introduction to Architecture Studio

64 International Youth and High School Students

Summer 2018, EXPLO at Yale University

New Haven, Connecticut, USA.

Instructor: Ali Reza Shahbazin

At the EXPLO at Yale summer school, I taught youth and high school students architectural design and art foundations by introducing them to Yale University’s iconic buildings designed by Louis Kahn, Paul Rudolph, and Eero Saarinen. We conducted design exercises such as folding paper architecture, architectural drawings, and models to prepare students for an architectural challenge: designing residential houses for their final project in Pinehills Town, Massachusetts. We visited the site, allowing students to walk around and study the location with the question in mind: “Where should the house be?” Upon returning to the campus, we worked on the designs and built models over a two-week period. Finally, students presented their designs to the Pinehills founder and showcased their work at the Green Art Gallery, Yale School of Art.
